Edge Of Fear

Edge of fear is a classic action thriller on Netflix. It brings the vibe of the 80s movies by being a typical home invasion and kidnapping movie but with a little twist.

Named Edge of Fear, this film will surely keep you at the edge of your seat, but to be honest, it isn’t something you haven’t seen before.

The Cast

What strikes right off the bat is it seems like a reunion of the Prison Break cast. This includes Robert Knepper (T-Bag), Rockmond Denbar (Miles), Amaury Nolasco (Fernando Sucre), and Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (Gretchen Morgan). Even the Director, Bobby Roth, directed some of the episodes of Prison Break, which explains why this seems to be a reunion.

Another notable cast is Robert Patrick, who plays Jack Pryor. I have seen Robert Patrick in Scorpion and From Dusk Till Dawn. This was my first time seeing him playing the villain. I wish the dialogue were better, but he still pulled it off since he has the gait and the gusto.

This time, Robert Knepper plays Novak, a Mexican gang leader. Amaury Nolasco plays Nick, a member of Pryor’s crew, together with Lyn O’Keefe (as Gina). Rockmond Denbar plays Mike Dwyer, a hedge fund investor.

Also starring are Lin Shen as Patrick Chen and Zhu Zhu as Laura Chen, both Chinese. I have never seen Lin Shen in other works, but I enjoyed Zhu Zhu in Marco Polo.

The Plot

The film introduces Mike Dwyer’s friendship with Laura Chen and Patrick Chen when they save his life. This friendship leads to Mike inviting them to his place for the weekend.

On the other end, Jack Pryor and his crew are tasked with freeing Novak from Prison during transport. But once they do, their car breaks down, and they hitchhike until they find Mike Dwyer’s home in the company of the Chens. The rest of the show typically takes place in this home.

What I Think About the Movie

As I mentioned, it’s a basic 80’s movie. There’s violence, above-average dialogue, some sex, and death (lots of it). Patrick Chen quickly becomes the hero in the show, even with a knife driven through his chest.

However, unlike most Chinese characters who often use martial arts in such a situation, Patrick is more subtle, silent, and stealthy. He was first portrayed as this good-natured and naïve guy who even sympathized with an animal killed during hunting, but he had to change this to overcome the challenges he now faced.

Unlike in Prison Break, Novak (Robert Knepper) is likable in this movie, but you quickly hate most of the other villains.

Is Edge OF Fear Worth Watching?

Should you watch it? Yes. Is it entertaining? Hell yes.
